The Manitoba Chinese Youth Committee, under the Winnipeg Chinese Cultural & Community Centre, is a cultural non-profit managed and led by youth from Manitoba for the purposes of engaging in Chinese heritage preservation, cultural exchange, and education.
Read about what the MCYC cultural non-profit is trying to do below.

Exploring Chinese culture together
The MCYC hopes to serve as a tight-knit community for those interested in Chinese culture to explore, socialize, and learn.
We will do this by providing events that engage participants in Chinese cultural practices, foods, arts, games, media, and other experiences.
In creating an engaging, and safe environment for everyone interested in Chinese culture, we hope as well to serve as a cultural exchange community. Many individuals that are interested in Chinese culture, whether because it is their heritage, or because they’re interested in some facet of the culture, can find a home with the MCYC.
Meet the Volunteers
A special thank you to those that volunteer and participate at our meetings! The MCYC wouldn’t be what it is without you! If you believe you should be on this list, don’t hesitate to reach out!
Meet the Executives
The MCYC is a group for youth, led by youth, and directed by youth. Here is a list of our executives!
Meet the Advisors
The MCYC brings a wealth of knowledge, wisdom and experience to support the current MCYC member’s endeavors. Introducing the MCYC advisors!
Organization Structure
As the MCYC is a group acting under the WCCCC, an incorporated, charity non-profit, volunteer driven organization with the intent of cultivating a community of those interested in Chinese Culture, our organization structure is intentionally left quite flat to allow for open discussion between the community members.
Club Members
The Executives
Operate as the key volunteers, or those that are willing to dedicate a relatively significant portion of their time. These individuals often (not always) lay the ground works for what turns out to be the MCYC’s next event. They are given privileges to propose meeting agenda items, and delegate tasks amongst volunteers who are interested in the proposed items.
The Volunteers
These are members of the general public that are kind and interested enough in one or more of the executive’s proposed agenda items that they are willing to devote some of their time to the MCYC. This time typically comes in the form of participating in the meeting discussions, and votes, however not necessarily. Additionally, volunteers often devote some of their time to helping set up the events that they helped organize.
Volunteers are foundational to the success of the MCYC and are considered formal members of the club, independent of how often they are able to volunteer. As members of the club, they are invited to all membership only events as a show of appreciation. Such events often include paid-for snacks, drinks or other such membership only event-specific necessities.
Non-members
The Participants
Are those that have shown interest to at least one MCYC event/activity and have registered/showed up. Asides from the volunteers, participants are the next most helpful individuals in the sense they spread the word, offer feedback, and fund a portion of the MCYC through their participation.
The Subscribers
These are the individuals who have heard of the MCYC, either online, at physical locations, or through word of mouth. They may also have participated in past events, and importantly, are still interested in MCYC events. Their subscriptions to the MCYC’s newsletters mean a lot since it shows the MCYC that people are interested in what the club is trying to do for the community.
The MCYC strives to generate activities/events, that make participants stay subscribers, and subscribers stay participants!
FAQs
How do I pay for an event I registered for?
Simple! During booking, you would have had the option to pay in-person, or online immediately via Stripe, which accepts credit cards, amongst other methods of payment (read here about Stripe). If you selected to pay with Stripe, a new page should have popped up requiring your payment information.
If the new page did not pop up, or you accidentally closed it, don’t worry! Check your email for a username (the email you filled in during booking/registration), and a password (automatically generated, which you can change). Once logged in, visit the “My Bookings” tab under “Events”. There, you should see your booking and the ability to resume payment.
Can I purchase on behalf of someone or transfer my tickets?
Yes! So long as you provide the individuals you are purchasing for the information you were provided (QR codes and general booking information), we will be able to validate that they have a booking.
I registered and paid for an event, but can’t make it anymore. May I get a refund?
We will absolutely try our best to provide you a refund. However, there are circumstances such as already having prepared your portion for the event, where we would not be able to refund you! Please see our refund policy for more details and the form to request a refund.
What does being a (general) member mean?
A general member, is a member interested in volunteer opportunities within the MCYC, as well as a member who wishes to be a participant of MCYC events. As a thanks to our general members, we sometimes host events with MCYC funded activities, free to the members.
Can I join the MCYC as a general member?
Of course! The more the merrier. Asides for being typically less than 26 y/o, and being interested in any aspects of Chinese culture, there are no requirements for joining as a general member. Don’t worry if you’re not familiar with Chinese culture, being interested is enough!
